GAR Description
We are hiring an hourly graduate research assistant for a SSHRC-funded project working with the St. John’s Women’s Centre, the Corner Brook Women’s Centre, and the Bay of St. George Women’s Centre. This community-based research study takes an innovative approach that blends digital photography and social media to explore the cultural, structural, and personal issues that affect sex workers in Newfoundland. In this study, sex workers from both rural and urban communities will take photographs to explore and document their experiences and the systemic forces – be they judicial, institutional, or social, that impact their place in society.
For this graduate research position, responsibilities include overseeing participant recruitment, conducting literature reviews, assisting in data collection and analysis, developing and maintaining social media accounts, and other duties as required. Experience with participatory and community-based research desired. Strong writing skills and experience with qualitative data collection and analysis required. This research study includes three community-based partners, so communication skills are highly important.
For this position, the successful applicant can work from home, however some travel is required. Graduate students located on the west coast of Newfoundland are also encouraged to apply.
The position will be approximately 8 hours per week, and will run from September 2017 – August 2018, with the possibility of an extension.
Interested applicants should email a CV, a writing sample, and a brief statement of interest (please highlight past research experience) to the project’s Principal Investigator, Dr. Kathleen Sitter, ( kcsitter@ucalgary.ca ) by September 7.
Only applicants invited for an interview will be contacted.
