The St. John’s Status of Women Council and Women’s Centre (SJSWC/WC) is a feminist organization that has been advancing equality and justice since 1972 through political activism, community collaboration, and the creation of a safe, inclusive space for women and gender-diverse individuals in the St. John’s area.

The Women’s Centre is a low-barrier, welcoming space where participants can connect with staff, take part in programs and groups, and build community. Services include drop-in and supportive counselling, group programming, information and referral, advocacy, social and recreational activities, and system navigation support related to income, legal matters, housing, and safety.

The Centre serves all women and gender-diverse individuals, with specialized individual support and therapeutic groups for those who have experienced gender-based violence. This role operates in a dynamic, low-barrier environment and requires comfort working with participants experiencing crisis, trauma, and complex life circumstances.

Reporting to the Women’s Centre Coordinator, the successful candidate will primarily deliver services through short-term counselling and group co-facilitation, as well as supporting the development and advancement of ongoing support groups such as the Empowering Ourselves program, which is a closed, eight-week, in-person psychoeducational support group for women and gender-diverse individuals who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV). This program is offered on average three times per year.

The successful candidate will receive external bi-weekly clinical supervision.
